Hamster food at The Pet Warehouse

The best all round balanced diet for your would be a commercial Hamster food, like those on sale in this section, which is supplemented with fresh fruit and vegetables, hay/alfalfa and of course a constant supply of fresh drinking water. This can also be supplemented further with vitamin and mineral drops or fortified Hamster treats. Hamster foods such as Xtra Vital Hamster mix provide all the minerals; vitamins and nutrients required and are clean and hygienic. Hamsters will hoard their food and therefore fresh fruit and vegetables should be fed by hand so that you know it has been eaten and not hoarded away where it will rot. Remove uneaten food and wash food bowl and water bottle daily. The Pet Warehouse Company sell snacks and treats for hamsters that will liven up the diet and can aid taming.

Avoid lettuce, spinach and citrus fruits as some of these can be harmful to gerbils. Our range of Gerbil foods and treats are essential in the development of your pet, we stock brands such as Beaphar and Mr Johnson's.

Dwarf Hamster Food

Dwarf hamsters need a good quality, varied diet to keep them healthy. Dwarf hamster food with a good mixture of grains, seeds and nuts is best as a staple diet, while small amounts of fresh vegetables and fruit such as broccoli, carrots and pear are ideal for providing fresh nutrients. However, not all types of fruit are suitable; avoid citrus fruits are these are too acidic. Always wash fruit and vegetables before feeding them to your hamster to remove any traces of chemicals.

It is important to remember to change your dwarf hamster’s diet gradually – introduce new food in small amounts, gradually increasing how much you give your pet. Dwarf hamsters have sensitive digestive systems and can become ill from a drastic change of diet.
